Superfast Website Publishing

The fastest speed improvement we measured cut publishing time by a staggering 30 (thirty !!) times when publishing a complete shop.

Of course there also huge speed improvements when you simply publish changes or updates, rather than a complete shop.

Three requirements

To use super fast publishing however, you must meet three requirements.

1. This might seem obvious, but you must of course publish with ShopFactory.
2. Your Server must support PHP with write access to the files on your server. Most servers do these days, and if you are using the free high availability hosting supplied with ShopFactory Total Care, you are covered.
3. You MUST enter the correct “Publishing URL” in ShopFactory Publish Settings – it MUST match the Internet address you use to visit your website with a browser, such as http://www.shopfactory.com/ (do not add file names at the end)

How does it work?

If you have entered the correct publishing URL (click on Publish / Publish to the Net / Settings), ShopFactory publishes your store using PHP and some clever file compression.

But before it does this, ShopFactory checks your shop for changes, and selects only the files which have changed. After all, what is the point of publishing file which are already online.

Then ShopFactory combines all changed files and compresses them up into one file. This file now contains all the changes, but is usually several times smaller than the sum of all changed files.

Compression at work

So the compression already helps reduce the time considerably.

When this is done, we connect to your server through multiple channels and start publishing the compressed data to your server. Most servers support only a limited publishing speed per channel. So by increasing the number of channels we use to publish, we can multiply the publishing speed by up to four time.

Once all the data is published, we decompress the data and put the files back together.

A great combination

By combining compression and multiple channels, we have been able to give the publishing speed a huge boost.

How much faster your publishing will be, depends entirely on the contents of your shop.

For example if your shop contains mainly images and only a little text (which is bad for Search engine optimization, by the way) then your speed improvement when publishing your complete shop will be around 5-10 times.

If your shop is mainly text, you can expect speed improvements of up to 20 times – and possibly even more.

Of course the faster speed does not just help you, when you publish the complete shop.

Publishing changes to your shop is now also much faster, and will sometimes takes just seconds.

Other publishing programs we have tested cannot keep up with this speed. While they can also publish via multiple channels, they do not support the compression option, which limits their ability to boost publishing speed.
